Beauty cleanup is 2D paint and compositing work on faces and skin: removing distractions and refining appearance while leaving the actor’s expression, pores and natural texture intact.
Close-ups are unforgiving. A breakout on the day of a shoot, a tattoo that doesn’t belong to the character, a makeup line at the edge of a wig, sweat under hot lights or a stray hair across the eye can all pull an audience out of a scene. Unlike a still photograph, every fix on moving footage has to track with the face as it talks, turns and changes expression, without softening into a mask or flickering between frames.
RotoEdge is a women-led VFX studio in India. Our beauty work is done in 2D paint and compositing, with a light touch: the aim is a face that looks well rested and on-character, not a face that looks retouched. Subtle age-related refinement, such as softening fine lines or under-eye shadows, is handled the same way. We don’t offer full CG or 3D de-aging or face replacement.

Every shot is scoped with you before work starts, including how far the retouch should go. Deliveries are usually agreed as image sequences matching your plate, and the exact format is agreed per project.

Beauty work is common in commercials, where products and faces share the frame, and in series and features where close-ups have to match across days of shooting. Because it involves people’s faces, we handle it under Non-Disclosure Agreements with controlled access to the footage.
How Beauty Cleanup Pricing Works.
We quote beauty work per shot once we have seen the footage and agreed how subtle or how thorough the retouch should be.

Beauty Cleanup Questions.
Do you offer full digital de-aging?
No. Our de-aging is subtle, 2D paint and compositing work on the existing face, such as softening fine lines and shadows. We don’t provide CG or 3D de-aging or face replacement.
Will the skin look over-smoothed?
That is the main thing we guard against. We keep pore detail, grain and natural variation in the skin, and the strength of the retouch is agreed with you per project before the work goes ahead.
Can you match retouching already done on other shots?
Yes. Send the approved shots as reference and we’ll match the look so the scene cuts together consistently.
Can you remove a tattoo on a moving arm or neck?
Yes. Tattoo removal on moving skin is tracked through the shot and rebuilt with matching skin texture and tone. Shots where hair, hands or clothing cross the tattoo take more work, so mark them when you send frames.
Do you use AI tools for beauty work?
We use AI-assisted tools where they support our artists, but every shot is finished and approved by people, with human review before delivery.
How do you keep footage of performers confidential?
We work under Non-Disclosure Agreements, with secure workflows and controlled access to client footage at every stage.
